Racism Is The Law Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Racism Is The Law

Rating: 4.5

Is this democracy?
If so, it's a hypocrisy
The world is limited
Because of the impact
Fear has on society
This fear is internalized
Where it starts in the mind
And ill emotions materialize
Which is then externalized
In reality
The battle fought for years
Has never really ended
Instead of being hopeful
Society needs to wake up,
Wake up now people
I believe we have to be careful
In our fight for survival
To become equal
In the wake of events in New York
And in Ferguson
Blacks should rise,
Be moving on up like
George Jefferson
I've given myself permission to feel
Deep from the well of my emotions
Anger and sadness which flows like the river
Crime is rising
And it's primary target are blacks
Those whose duty to protect and serve
Have malicious intent to attack and injure
White robes and burning crosses
Is equivalent to black robes and gavels
Blacks are the most underrated
It leaves some astonished
Not receiving credit
For what's been accomplished
They will smile in your face
But the hate they embrace
Some found humor in these occurrences
Believing it had merit
There is no merit in barbarity
Black lives matter
Just not to the standpoint
Of those who feel privileged

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

It's a well articulated poem written with intensity to capture man inhumanity to man, which rises it's ugly head in form of racism, structural imbalances, xenophobia among others. For true freedom to exist, all peace loving people must fight fervently for it until the battle is won. A nice poem indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
