Purple Hearts Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Purple Hearts

Resolution blooms like a blue rose
We are the flowers of the true sky
Sown in the soil where love can grow
Every hour eternity sublimely shines

Youth fallen on forgotten battle fields
Savor the ghostly haunted fallen
Unmarked graves in centuries sealed
Blood flows to the bridle calling

Crying fathers and mothers wail
Shallow graves filled with pale rain
Armadas of proud war ships sail
War the story of history and pain

Tonight my dreams are restless streams
I feel my resting father's soul and heart
Old photos of the war his eyes had seen
Tears in the night I hold his purple heart

I hear the taps played for all the brave
Honor rises from soldier’s silent graves
Someday the dove of peace shall hark
No more war and no more purple hearts
