Puffing Billy Poem by Francis Duggan

Puffing Billy

I hear the huff huff puff of Puffing Billy
The engine driver the shrill horn blow
He climb the tracks through wooded hills of Selby
And puff up black smoke as he slowly go.

For years he's travelled between Belgrave and Emerald
Old Puffing Billy Sherbrooke's famous steam train
Twice a day to Emerald park he journey
Then all way downhill to Belgrave again.

For children of all ages an attraction
The six year old girl to her mother say
Mum, I'd love another ride on Puffing Billy
Can we come back to Belgrave saturday.

The parents with their parents made the journey
Their children on the train with them today
A boy of seven and his sister two years younger
Wave to people they see along the way.

The old style carriages have old style seating
And the old style windows don't have any glass
And children and their parents lean out windows
And they wave to people who wave back as they pass.

Belgrave in Victoria is known to many
As home of Puffing Billy the steam train
Twice a day he puffs uphill to emerald
And all way downhill to Belgrave again.
