Puff, Chuff And Pant Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Puff, Chuff And Pant

Puff, chuff and pant
Clattering wheels chant
Rattles, bangs and shakes
Such a cacophony of noise it makes
Rocking gently from side to side
Along the rusted steel we glide
Smells of musty old fabric seats wafts
Invading the nasal passage, sometimes distracts
Fields and houses flash on by
All too quickly the time does fly
Black coated a man clipped tickets, making a tear
Scrutinised with a nonchalant glance and glare
Slowing
Brakes glowing
Jerking as wheels screamed protesting loud
On the stations platform the waiting crowd
The nine fifteen memorial steamer pulled in
Faces everywhere sporting a grin
A once in a lifetime event
The age of steam locomotion, they reinvent
