Prisoner In My Own Cell Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Prisoner In My Own Cell

In the prison cell of my mind
Keys to unlock the door I cannot find
Here laying immobile with no reprieve
Watching my wife, my lover grieve

Muted with no response to show
Slowly my mind steps in solitudes madness
Hidden in the black cloak of a crow
Wanders aimlessly in silent sadness

Ricocheting around my Trojan horse of war
Limbs shattered by shrapnel fell
Exposing the public to the gore
Outside this empty shell

Pain has no feel
Narcotics complete the deal
Just a sealed shell you see
Here in my darkness, you do not see me

Gongs they hand out to all
Especially to those who fall
Carry my burnished shield they gave
You my wife is one who's brave
