Primer Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Primer

The primer unlike it's name alludes
Is not so prime
It is bound to crack and weather
Before it's time
And anything worth preserving
or protecting would not be so fine
If it was not given some care
A human touch, loving and sublime
And so a painter on this Fall day wrote
If it's worth the primer
It's worth the care of gloss or semi-gloss
To make a more lasting bond
And with his paintbrush strokes
As deftly as a magic wand
Knowing that all good things implied
Of which his heart are so fond
Are deserving of a second coat
