Pretend Poem by Stefanie Fontker

Pretend

Pretend to gaze at me
When I'm not looking
Never have I smiled-
Not thinking of you
Am I catatonic?
It's you I see-
In my reflection
It's clear- you're
The one for me
I never let go-
My grip must leave
Your wrist sore
I doubt I've ever
Crossed your mind- I'm
A lover too selfish
I offer you-
All of me
But I want everything
In return- Can't you
See I'm not me
Without you- Our goodbye
Will leave me with
Eyes that cry- It hurts
When you tear me to pieces
What have you to gain?
Lie to me- tell me
How much you love me
