Press Start Poem by TMA

Press Start

Life is like a video game
I pressed start eighteen years ago
And I’ve been playing ever since.

You learn to play as you go
Mastering the controls
The first few years
Then, all of a sudden,
The game picks up to a furious pace
And I wish I could press‘pause’
And get away from it all…
But you can’t relax
’Cause there are no replays
No extra lives
No restarting from the last checkpoint…

I must clear each hurdle
Or be stuck on the same level forever
Can’t let the hard stages get me down
Or else I’ll stay depressed
Like ‘X’
When you play NFS…
Always looking over my shoulder
For the villains from past levels
Are always lurking in the shadows
Yet I must keep a wary eye forward
For new ones…

So I have to stay super like Mario
Play it perfect like Tekken
Flawless, ’cause this is Mortal Kombat
Or meet my Doom…
Stay hawk-eyed like Tony’s glasses
Answer the Call of Duty
Keep it holy without the Halo
Make sure I never Burnout
’Cause I’ll never quit…
Setting my own goals
But never losing at FIFA…
