Preconceptions Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Preconceptions

Soft as white satin sheets
Life the hardest diamond
You're like the willow breeze
You are the ideal with thorns
Boughs of paradise
Rivers of doubt
We whisper afraid of the pillars
Rosewood guitars
They hold you from me
They are court vultures
Feel the moon by Venus
Sanity is red
Red fingernails of pearl
Memory the lion of silk
They teach you to control you
Are we souls in the same mirror?

Where are you tonight?
By the border streetlamp
By the charlatans of ivory
You cross the desert like rain
Rain pouring on my mind
Space and time in golden light
Candles of the future light the past
Where am I?
I am hearing the jazz of Adele
Seeing the mannequins dance
Crying like a sea
Playing the blues on a Martin Guitar
Looking at your smile in the stars
Catching up with myself
Self-reflection is symbiotic
Even the accused gets their trial

Preconceptions like Judas betray
