Prayer Of Thomas Merton (Rewrite) Poem by Mike Finley

Prayer Of Thomas Merton (Rewrite)

Where I am going, I don't know
The road ahead twists out of sight

Where it will lead no one can say
I hardly even know myself

The fact that I think I'm doing right
does not mean I really am

But I believe the desire to please you
does in fact please you

And I am determined to inject that thought
in everything I say and do

And I believe that if I do this mostly
You will take my arm and lead me to you

Though I don't feel you, though I could feel fear
I will find a way to trust you

Even though I seem lost, even though
death stands face to face with me like a thief

I am not afraid
for you are mine and I am yours
and alone is no longer a possiblity

A delightful rewrite of the original, seeing that it holds true to Merton's intent; wonderfully written! -Joe Breunig author/poet, Reaching Towards His Unbounded Glory
