Post Memorial Day Poem by kenneth william snow

Post Memorial Day

typically Memorial Day
is cold and gray
somber...sacred
selfless

we honor
our departed children
martyred
for country

every nation
mourns its war dead
and promises the living
victory...
over 'evil'

and 'evil'
lay its dead children to rest
in consecrated soil
as well

all Mothers mourn
their sacrificial sons

Memorial Day was brilliant
with sunshine
and Mother's tears
trailed summer memories
across continental planes

sunny marshmallow days
chasing puffs of possibilities
through yellow dappled
green
grass
meadows

...mellowed
spirits
soaring on sunbeams
dust dazzles
dead ions
eons
and icons
