Poetry: Yet Another Definition Poem by Shalom Freedman

Poetry: Yet Another Definition

POETRY: YET ANOTHER DEFINITION

The words should mean more than they say
The lines should listen to and lilt with the other lines
The meanings should be inside and outside their writer’s intentions or
All should sing
And the singing should have a kind of harsh and resilient beauty.

All these words
Should echo and reflect upon life
And add to it.

Poetry should be more than its definition
And any poem only its own
even if written in a language
No one will ever fully understand.

All dreams after all
Should be other than what
Any single night can show.
