Poetically Insane! (Part 1) Poem by Judith Driscoll Bryan

Poetically Insane! (Part 1)

......................................................................
Author's Note:

This is a Musical One Act Comedy Play (Part 1)
that I wrote for a local Highschool Theater Group.
.........................................................................

Defence Statement...

''I pity those who are Criminally Inclined.
Bent on committing the...Perfect Crime.
I prefer to perfect my rhythm and rhyme
So, the title..'Poet Laureate' will be mine! '

..........................................................................................

Accused - Miss Elly Kent-Lee

Plantiffs - (1) - Mr. O. Beese...(2) - Mrs. D. Point

Presiding Judge - Honorable 'Kause Isaiah Soe'
.........................................................................................

''Silence in the court! '' the Judge decreed.
Pounding his gavel...angrily!
''Defy this order and.....all that DARE
Will be forced to sit in the Electric Chair! ''

'''Before me stands, Miss Elly Kent-Lee,
Charged with obstructing - Laws of Courtesy.
I'll grant her wish for Linguistic Liberty.
All who speak, will speak, poetically! '''

'''Your Honour! ...
...I'm the barrister for the Accused,
On reading these charges, I was highly amused.
That her jealous co-workers would both agree
To incarcerate Miss Lee - for her poetry.''

''I object! ''
...said the Prosecutor..''Don't misconstrue!
My Learned Opponent should use the P's + Q's
Of Proper Court Conduct to rid his glibness.
I'll disregard his comment and call my first witness! ''

'Bang! Bang! '
...went the gavel as the judge took control.
''To ensure a Fair Trial...is my Judicial Role! '
This court's adjourned till Monday! 10 A *M*...
Till then, best practise your rhyme and rhyTHM.''

(This Trial will resume....
....in Poetically Insane - Part 2.)
