Poemhunter Poem by John Fenton Mcleish

Poemhunter

Debtors prison to Westminster abbey
I read about yon poets from the past
Penniless to diamond and ruby
Such adventures that I do lay agasp

Some lauded in the glorious arms of fame
Some hounded into destitution
But their brilliance will never know shame
Love their innermost constitution

Where your heart on your sleeve and pay the price
Contemporaries ignorant of great mind
Gaze into the immortal precipice
One's future unfathomable and blind

Through pain all geniuses shall be made
Regardless of opinion or grade
