'Please Don'T Call Me, Mama' Poem by Toshie Nohara

'Please Don'T Call Me, Mama'

Darling, you are 'papa' to our daughters
And oh yes, I am their 'mama' for sure
But would appreciate that you
'Don't call me, mama' every day
'Cos I can't naturally be your mother!
If I were so, I would be over
twenty years or more
Surely you would prefer to be
adored as my
dear husband and forever more
I believe you wouldn't want me to
call you 'papa' either
Surely you wouldn't want to
be much, much older than
I-but remember
You aren't that old, either
I am your loving wife who always
try to strive to be
your treasured life partner
So let's accept and respect each
other by calling our
given names our parents have chosen
Surely you wouldn't want them to
know that our names have been abandoned!
It is normal to say 'mama' when
you are talking on our
children's behalf
And that's enough for me
'Cos I understand

Thank you for your understanding
Let's be grateful to
god for His
wonderful blessing of a happy
family
Let's aim to be
a good
'Papa' and 'Mama' for our
family
So
'Please don't call me, mama! '
