Playing With Fire Poem by Tiger Lily Love

Playing With Fire

Rating: 5.0

A flame that seemed to burn so bright
Has suddenly gone out
And left ashes in its place

But not before searing my heart
And leaving permanent burns
All over my face

'Don't play with fire'
Is what I was taught
But advice that I foolishly didn't heed

And when I reached out my hand
Hoping you would be different
I soon realized I couldn't take the heat

But I've bandaged my burns since then
And have let them heal
And now that I'm fully recovered

To me you no longer appeal

A new spark has ignited for me
Replacing out long since dead flame

And in the ashes will remain your affection
That I once would have done anything to attain

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by the chorus of Pink's song Try:

'Where there is desire there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try try try'

But I've bandaged my burns since then And have let them heal And now that I'm fully recovered To me you no longer appeal That's my favorite line. Love the acknowledgment you make of not heeding and not being able to take the heat. Also love Pinks song and performace. As you know, my favorite line: Just b/c it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die...I didn't burst into tears, I didn't die, and the world didn't explode LOL

I like that this starts out dark and raw (permanent burns all over my face, don't play with fire, i realized i couldn't take the heat) but slowly it gets lighter as your burns start to heal. Not only do you heal but you also are able to light another less dangerous flame without forgetting about the last.
