Place Of Night Poem by Imthiyaz Khan

Place Of Night

Oh night!
I wonder how many roles thou play!
Thy outset is a pleasure
For troops to make merry
Like full throated songs of birds1

Old folk sing songs
In mirth and memoir
While damsels around
Indulge in fantasying
Like monomaniac!

The newly married
Savour the presence
Of each other
Like a devotee in contemplation!

The families postulate
Their future course of action
Like policy makers of the nation!

Day long huffish wives
Are melted by cajolement
By their beloved like
Iceberg by cool breeze!
Forced bachelors
At their work place
Retrospect like the ruminant!

To a tired body and mind
You reward with rest and respite
Like a mother, the source of solace!

But then the noble…?
They dream…dream…dream
Not one they see in sleep
But one that doesn't let them sleep!

They are awake to waken
People from their sleep of ignorance
To explore the ways
To make them lead
A dignified life to prosperity…!
