Piece Of Cake Poem by Arwa Bharmal

Piece Of Cake

For you
To break my heart
It was
A piece of cake

When you broke my heart,
I felt a painful ache,
Deep inside I felt something break.
At first I thought it was a mistake,
But I felt it again and it wasn’t fake.
I played it over like a double take,
Deep in my heart I felt an earthquake.

I mixed eggs and flour and put it to bake,
To make myself a great big cake.
I whisked over all the give and take,
But I didn’t think there was a need to brake.
Flat on the couch I lay wide awake,
Staring into the blissful opaque.
Cooking it over retake after retake,
It was like creating a recipe remake.
In the end I decided I would not forsake,
But it didn’t seem like a piece of cake.

When you broke my heart,
I felt a painful ache,
Cracking; I felt something break.
At first I thought it was a mistake,
Whipping it through; it wasn’t fake.
Beating it over like a double eight,
Inside my heart I felt an earthquake.

For you
To break my heart
It was
A piece of cake

It went on for days: the eating cake,
Birthday, Wedding or Anniversary cake,
Big, small or layered; any shaped cake,
More than just a slice I was going to take.
Marble cake, Sponge cake and Madeira cake,
Fruit cake, Cheesecake and Red Velvet cake,
Chocolate, Vanilla, and Ice-cream flavor,
Many more for the taste I had to savoir,
I used a different plate for each cake,
With a different flavour topping flake.
And to accompany the cake,
My very own big glass of milk shake!

For you
To break my heart
It was
A piece of cake

The Angel Food cake or the Devil’s Food cake,
It was a piece of cake.
To help myself to a slice of cake,
It was a piece of cake.
And they all disappeared take after take,
Just like traditional hot cakes..!

For you
To break my heart
It was
A piece of cake

In the end, I had a heart break,
And I felt so many awful aches.
Thinking so much gave me a headache-
Eating cake gave me a stomach ache-
I had a heart break
That felt less of an ache
And I crumbled to crumbs,
Like an empty cake plate.

You broke my heart -
So from me you must take...
Here; I give you a piece of cake…
