Photosynthesis Poem by Douglas Nichols

Photosynthesis

How green are the leaves
Of the plants that we view.
This pigment is from chlorophyll,
Contained in chloroplasts, not a few.

These chloroplasts are like factories,
Collecting the rays of the sun.
Converting light energy to a chemical form,
Thus photosynthesis is begun.

Carbon dioxide and water
Are taken in both.
And converted to energy,
Stored as a sugar called glucose.

As part of the process,
Oxygen it doth conceive.
Which is released to the atmosphere
For us humans to breathe.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Are you getting tired of science yet...of course not! This is fun. Thank goodness for this process that allows us to live on this beautiful world.
