Ph: Love: Miss Understanding Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Love: Miss Understanding

Seventy two years old now
and the only thing I’m really sure of
is that you gals tend to like taller guys,
an anatomical preference
like larger breasts are for many guys
though not all of course. ☺ Well,
I guess I should mention symmetry too,
though this is a more unconscious choice
that is linked to physical attractiveness
and which suggests quality genetic codes,
healthy babies, that sort of thing.

Though neither sex may escape our programming
surely there is something more,
something some people stumble upon by accident,
like breathing comes to most
that the rest of us perhaps could learn?
But surely poets must have written about it,
in dusty books that fail to attract much attention,
might lie answers unrecognized by mortal man?
Well, I believe that I may have found that answer,
though it lies really in simply understanding one word…

“Yes, ” the answer is “Yes! ”
Have you ever really said “Yes! ” to another person,
not “Maybe” but “Yes! ” Has anyone ever said “Yes! ” to you?
Loving another seems so hard to understand at times.
What does loving another really mean even?
One day she wants you to go shopping with her,
Sometimes she actually wants you to say,
“No, I really don’t like those shoes with that dress! ”
How is a guy to know? You can’t!
But you can be yourself,
you can speak the truth too,
which may disappoint her at times.
But if you want to know what it feels like to be loved,
Say “Yes! ”, always “Yes”, simply “Yes! ”
