Ph: Love: Another Geometry Like Love Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Love: Another Geometry Like Love

Rating: 5.0

Basic geometry's based on four axioms,
Something that many kids study in school,
But a fifth axiom's needed to prove it all,
This is where things start in getting real cool.

Really this axiom sounds very theorem like
Many have tried just to prove that it's so
Math is not science though, stunningly math's pure thought,
No underpinnings suggest where to go.

Science is tied to the world where we find ourselves
Math seems to find itself on other planes
Yet in creation math finds applications new
Funny how much mathematics explains

Love's exegesis resists like fifth axiom
Should be much simpler, still it just is
Minds get all blurry when sniffing its trail bizarre
Alternates pop up like girls in show biz.

So if you find yourself stewing in limbo's pot,
Give her a slide rule for Christmas this year,
Sure to last longer than roses or candy will
Then on Christ's Birthday buy pizza and beer.

Good which we give ourselves to seems to multiply
Friendship, geometry, love fares the same
Love's future story line ties us to God's heart strings
God's mathematics! Erased is all blame.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Brian Johnston
November 24,2014

Poet's Notes:
Bri Edwards wrote me recently asking for romantic advise to improve his relationship with his wife since humor (such as it is in his poetry) has not done the trick. As a physicist, poet, mathematician and non-denominational Christian, I have answered his Dear Abby letter with this heartfelt poem. Sorry Bri to have to expose your dirty laundry like this!

Well, another poem like this deserves applause. I think BJ has racked his mind over a long time before coming out with this. Marrying three incomprehensible 'entities', ' LOVE', ', AND MATHEMATICS' AND 'GOD' into one poem is certainly a cumbersome task and will personally do this only under some form of compulsion.(But arent we under some form of compulsion to enlightened ourselves and others TO ALSO KNOW some things...well) .....In that case, I will personally congratulate BJ for this tireless effort from him. Indeed, God's love for us is clearly depicted in his Grace and forgivess of our innumerable sins. Through his son, we are merely saved by Grace. I like this poem...well done!

Math seems to find itself on other planes ............. good one. i didn't think mathematicians/physicists had senses of humor! - - - - - - - - - - - - FOR MY REFERENCE: ex·e·ge·sis ˌeksiˈjēsis/ noun noun: exegesis; plural noun: exegeses critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially of scripture. the task of biblical exegesis synonyms: interpretation, explanation, exposition, explication the exegesis of ancient texts ======================= I JUST READ BALLSY-BRIAN'S POET'S NOTE: my response: Dirty Laundry IF i had soiled laundry... of the marital kind, someone other than you... i WOULD surely find.... to ask for ADVICE (not advise, you big dummy) . And if you gave me advice, I'm sure it'd be crummy. That is crummy, meaning bad, not crumby as you thought. Crumby is what you got when... crushed cookies you bought! . =============================== (i really DO like BJ, but i might draw the line at asking him for advice, especially of the marital kind! ! ! ! ! :) :) :) ) ==================== Love's exegesis resists like fifth axiom Should be much simpler, still it just is Minds get all blurry when sniffing it's trail bizarre Alternates pop up like girls in show biz. .............. i like is/biz even if i don't understand the stanza. but WHEN, Brian, are you going to remember the difference between when to use it's and when to use its? ? ? you are setting a bad example on PH for all of the youngsters. ============ i'll eat the pizza and she can have the beer! beer makes my face wrinkle! say, i might try God's math IF it will erase ALL my blame. Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. ============ ok, brian, as a late thanksgiving gift, i've given this a thumbs up, and i plan to send to MyPoemList, BUT ONLY BECAUSE you are behind me in 'treasure points' (or so you say) and i know how bad(ly) you feel about THAT! ! ! thanks for guiding me mercifully to the COMPLETE and unabridged title of this poem. no hunting feverishly in your silly filing system! :) bri
