Ph: Life: Becoming A Man Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Life: Becoming A Man

The wish of every boy it seems
Cannot come true fast enough
But then it does somehow
And yet you are left wondering
When it happened, how you missed it,
Those fears that the right stuff
Would elude you are past tense now,
You realize that slumbering
Achieved as much as conscious effort,
Best plans count no more than dreams.

Oh do not discount my words sir,
I have no gain in deceiving you.
To those of you who still aspire
Or those of you who’ve found your peace
Though dizzy at how events conspired
To bring the futures claim on you,
A gift that cares not for attire
Or a testimony’s legalese
Or even poetry’s sweet words inspired.
Your manhood is its own answer.
