Pest (The Black Death) Poem by Cece Dev

Pest (The Black Death)

I have seen you
behind your mask of white
I have peeled away
the paint that makes up your disguise.
You have revealed yourself
pagan of death and sickness.
round rings and
piercing screams,
your travel from one to another.
Black as night
and silent in flight
I see you touch your victims.
Reach out
and they fall to the ground
never again to rise.
Unlike you they turn pale white
and your laughter rings through the air
and up you go once again
searching for the next one
you’ll put to rest
in the cold dark ground.
