Perhaps You Do Poem by Aminath Neena

Perhaps You Do

Rating: 5.0

Walking back from work
Stumbling upon the drizzle
I look up at the canopy
The parchment stares back
Inky blackness devoid of expression
Just empty…so forsaken
Do you know?
No stars and no moon is out there
Just is so me, neither living nor dead
Can you see me mamma?
Do you know how much I miss you?

Can you see how your little girl
Is still walking
Going on steadfast in your steps all these years?
Not your baby anymore
She has her own little girl status quo
Did you know?
Perhaps you have met her in her dreams
Just as you do, in mine so many times
Can you see me mamma?
Do you know how much I miss you?

Can you see how strong your little girl
goes on pretending, wearing a shirt
Being patient all through this journey
Despite cravings and longings
Do you know?
Sometimes she stumbles with a blow
Yet somehow she always recovers before a fall
Perhaps it is the essence of your love that does it.
Can you see me mamma?
Do you know how much I miss you?

Can you see how your little girl
Cries herself to sleep so many endless nights
Perhaps you do watch over her
Do you know?
Do you see her tears drain?
Can you feel her pain?
Mamma, are you here with me now?
Can you see me mamma?
Do you know how much I miss you?
