Pee Wee Poem by Francis Duggan

Pee Wee

How can one ever mistake him the bird singing in the park
Pee wee pee wee is all he sing the dainty magpie lark
A black and white feathered character his is a familiar song
Pee wee pee wee the notes he sing you cannot get him wrong.

Some people call him mudlark for one reason that he
And his partner build cup shaped nest of mud on fork or branch of tree
And others call him pee wee because of the song he sing
All through the year from dawn till dark from Summer to the Spring.

Pee wee pee wee is all he sing in rain, hail, sun or snow
You hear him once and the next time his voice you surely know
He has been in this Southern Land centuries before the first humans came
And pee wee pee wee is all he sang the unknown of without a name.

Pee wee pee wee in the Town park each morning at daybreak
And pee wee pee wee in evenings's fading light that voice none can mistake
The magpie lark a dainty bird in his familiar black and white
Pee wee pee wee is all he sing from dawn till dark of night.
