Pat on the Back from God

I never had a pat on the back
From God
I never heard Him say
'Well done'!
Usually He's catching me
When time again
I've tried
To tackle life
Without His approval.

I never had a pat on the back
From God
I never heard Him say
'Atta girl'!
Often He's extracting me
From sticky mud and mire,
And keeping me away
From Hell's fire!

I've never had a pat on the back
From God
I never heard Him say
'Way to go'!
But many times He's carried me
When life's been just too hard
And many times He's said
'I love you, child'!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Christians are not perfect.. however we strive to be more like Christ, we inevitably fall and fail. And yet God is faithful in His love for us.. He does not leave us or forsake us.
