Passing By Poem by Selorm Agbleze

Passing By

I saw a man standing
And a lady by him
A lady exploited for what she had
A lady who tapped love
From a heart that had none

I saw this man
Gentle beyond his heart
With his face painted
With colours of virtue
His soul never had

I saw her by him
I saw her stare
This lovely dame
With weathered eyes
At a cloud that never rained

I saw her stare
With eyes that had lost their glow
Eyes that no longer supported her smile
Eyes that have searched the deep well
For water that it never yielded
