Passage Poem by Jean Renwick

Passage

Will you hear me if i whisper “I love you”?
Words drifting across the unconventional space between us.
I knew you before I met you
how dear you would be to me.
Your hair, your lips, your eyes.
Your eyes.
Warm, liquid, that draw me in, like a planet towards its sun -
then to release me, spinning.

Will you hear me if i whisper “I need you”?
Words urgently pressed into the unconventional space between us.
You are ever elusive to me; mysterious and enticing
even as is your muse in my dreams.
Your hands, your breasts, your tongue.
Your tongue.
Warm, seeking, that draws me out, expanding to embrace the world in agonistic ecstasy -
then to release me, contracting.

Will you hear me if i whisper “I’ll never forget you”?
Words floating through the unconventional space between us.
Through infinite time
that now separates us.
