Parting Words Poem by Nick Rohner

Parting Words

Your face still on my walls
Your words still in my ears
Your taste still on my lips
This longing in my heart
Shall never be fulfilled

In leaving you,
The pain I wished to kill
But in leaving you,
The pain it lingers still
A self inflicted pain

I wish I knew the way to go
But without you I am lost
Not sure if my returning
Will make me feel secure

If I were a king,
I’d make you my queen
I’d place my love in a butterfly
And never let it go

I’d put my love in a rose
And leave it by your bed
An ever living rose
Never to wilt or die
An ever living rose,
That resembles you and I

Not knowing were to go I feel so torn
Between what I had with you
And the chance of something new
Hoping that my choice not be forlorn

In this
I give my parting words
“I love you and always will”
Here I shall always be,
Waiting for you and me

If it is not the way
It is meant to be
Then I will find a way past,
You and me
But always know,
I am here for you
