Part-Time Lover Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Part-Time Lover

I dream of a fairy-tale love affair
And I'd imagined you as my fantasy lover
I show you love but you don't seem to care
Come to realize that it's all pretend, I'd later discover
memories from way back then
Comes to mind, like deja-vu, all over again
Surely you can run but, you can't hide
What you fighting for? You can't deny
I'd become more than just a friend
I belong to you as you to me, better to be together than alone
May we find love this time around
Remember the time when your arms wrapped warmly 'round my waiste
Remember the time when you showed interest in me, baby
We tried didn't work but here we've been given a second chance
I said little and you were more opened to converse
I'd better let you go before I get hurt
If anything was to happen here after
I better had been careful and shield my emotions
As we move into this without guilt or shame
Is there not someone involved?
So, Why do you need me? Am I the part-time lover?
Are you truly happy with this person?
If you are, than, I can't and I won't be your part-time lover
