Parents Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Parents

My Ma
Is in her
Late sixties.
My Baba
In his
Early seventies.

Going by the
Average
Life span
Of people
Living in
India,
They don't have
Very many
Years to live.

It's a loss for me.
It's a loss for them.
When life has
Nothing more
To give.

All the grudges
You have
Against your
Parents,
Just let them go,
For when they go,
You'll keep grudging
About all the love
You couldn't show.

Because of them
You've seen
The light
Of this earth.
Be grateful…
For they've
Brought you
To this earth.

You owe them
Your life.
Whatever they could,
They did their best.
Now it's time
To put matters
At rest.

They are your
Parents.
Were they good
Or not so good,
You'll always
Miss them.
