Paranoid Poem by Juan Olivarez

Paranoid

Sometimes you're silent
And I'm paranoid
I start asking questions
And you just smile

So I feed the bird
And I make coffee
And I glance sideways
At you.

The dog makes me nervous
The cat smells
And my peripheral vision
Is straining

So I bring you a cup
And you smile
And you kiss my hand
And I smile.
