Paint Me The Colours Of The Rainbow Poem by Paula Glynn

Paint Me The Colours Of The Rainbow

RED

Red is the colour of passion,
Red is the colour of rage,
Broken hearts consumed,
But red shines during sundown,
Time heading towards the night,
Where women paint their nails red,
And choose red lipstick,
As they drink rich red wine,
That governs the senses,
And loosens inhibitions,
Hearts out to mend,
Red’s passion in all people,
For no one can pretend,
In the heat of the night.

YELLOW

Yellow is the morning sun,
The working day on its way,
Men and women trying,
To get things done,
And in summertime,
Sunflowers bloom,
In glorious yellow,
And fields of corn thrive,
Nature helping us survive,
Time moving on,
Never stopping,
And leaving us in the night,
And yellow glows in hearts,
The summer season fun,
Where excitement waits for everyone,
As they walk under the hot sun.

GREEN

Green is the colour of the grass,
And green is the colour of jealousy,
Of another missing out,
On someone’s achievements,
For it’s a complex life,
But green is also the colour of nature,
The leaves of all trees,
The plants can create oxygen,
For the earth is blue and green,
The only planet where life grows,
And the place where everyone achieves,
And all jealousy diminishes,
The rainbow’s colours glowing,
In all hearts searching for more.

BLUE

Blue is the daytime sky,
Where airplanes do fly,
And blue is the heart in denial,
Cold, cut-off and confused,
While the sky creates dreams:
Dreams of angels sleeping,
On those perfect white clouds,
That no person on an airplane,
Can touch, but can look,
For blue is life’s river,
And blue are the lakes and oceans,
That ships sail upon,
In sometimes storms,
But there is calm after the storm,
And the sky shines blue once more,
Dreams of angels children do explore.

PURPLE

Purple is quirky yet glamorous,
Purple is unusual and fascinating,
For a person dressed in purple,
Is never insulted or ignored,
No matter the fabric or style,
And purple are the lights,
Of the nightlife,
Where women glide on,
Shimmering and deep,
Purple lipstick,
No matter the race,
For purple neon lights,
Shine until late at the funfair,
Vibrant and in fashion,
As people wander and explore,
The rainbow of people and colours,
Shining its quirky and wonderful purple.

PINK

Pink is feminine,
Pink is the paint on my bedroom walls,
And pink is gentle and soothing,
Comforting and subtle,
No matter the shade of pink,
For most little girls,
Grow up with pink,
And Barbie wears the fashion,
Of a glamorous lifestyle,
Where women dress with style,
And wear stunning high heels,
And a little girl is taught this,
Throughout her life,
Whether or not she agrees,
But all the colours of the rainbow appeal,
All shades of colours are there,
For girls and boys,
And boys can enjoy any colour,
No discrimination to trap any kid.

ORANGE

Orange is gregarious,
Orange fits all fun times,
Whether it is a lolly in summer,
Or war paint on a model,
For orange is vibrant,
And clothes of orange,
Dress all, no matter the season,
For orange is never dull,
But is always bright and fun,
No matter the person,
And orange walls look great,
As does any colour of the rainbow,
And orange is a universal colour,
There to make us happy,
There to bring colour to the day,
And there to just have some fun.
