Captured by her charm
For her charm disabled his alarm
Fantasies he wove
A drunkard drunk with love
He dreamt and dreamt
Of a future that was not meant to be
Desperate and unkempt
There was little else he could see
He staggered into proposals
For lack of what else to do
He was eager with reprisals
For the Spirit of fruitless woo
He longed to put this enemy to shame—
Love at long last to be able to tame—
But there was a price to pay
With his beliefs he was to part ways
Needn’t say he didn’t;
Even God above knew he couldn’t
So that while his spirit enemy rejoiced
Songs of defeat he voiced
For he was attached, he was hooked
Till his goose was cooked
And now he claims that love is past
But are his troubles over at last?
