Outlook Poem by Ryan Lee Morris

Outlook

When I base my future, by looking out,
My outlook might be bleak.
When I base my present from looking in,
I find the peace I seek.

For all I need, I already have,
The price, it was my pride.
All the treasures in life I sought,
Were simply waiting for me inside.

The things I thought, that made me weak,
From them, I found my strength.
If inner peace was what I wanted,
I'd have to go to any length.

I found that I was following,
Things that often go astray.
Like money, people and tomorrow,
But I all have is just today.

Money can be won and lost,
And people come and go.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed,
Today is all I know.

When my happiness, is mainly based
On things I can't rely.
I would turn my back away from truth,
And be facing only lies.

My happiness now, comes from within,
And upon God's will I lean.
For the true treasures that are found in life,
Are the ones that can't be seen.

Inside is our spirit, we are truly rich,
Our treasures, we are meant to give.
It is only until we die to ourselves,
We learn how to truly live.

But until that point, behind lies I hide,
Wrapped up in my own shell.
I know that Heaven simply waits,
But first, I must go through hell.

I reach my end, my ways must change,
Tired of living a life of lies.
So I nail my sins upon a cross,
So my spirit, now, can rise.

I now look back, then I look in,
So then I can look out.
The lessons taught and lessons learned,
Is what this journey is all about.
