Outburst! Poem by Geetha Jayakumar

Outburst!

Rating: 5.0

Who can withstand nature's fury
When cloudburst in anger
Normally lasts a few minutes
But the heavy downpour it brings
Flooding may be its result.
With the clearing of trees
The roots lost its grip on soil.
The soil went on draining down.
The land could not withstand the heavy rainfall
It went on sliding down
Killing many innocent lives
Pulling many lives down under debris.

Still many heart beating with open eyes wide
Waiting for rescue team
To arrive and save their lives.
They will fight for their lives
Till the last breathe they live.

Rescued ones feels proud for
they had a heroic comeback
Seeing death face to face.
Dear ones, make sure
Stay away from epidemics
Which can bust anytime in unhygienic conditions!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

For centuries rains have been a source of inspiration for lovers, and where there is love, poets rush to that place. The days have been changed now and today arts and literature are not only mirrors of the society but a critic and a guide as well. Today art is not for art, rather today's art is for life. Literature is now very close to life and a realistic one. No surprise if Geetha painted a realistic portrait of the rains. Well wrote Geetha. You deserve a 10.

i forgot to write that your description of rains leaves an impression upon me that you have seen Karachi during the rains, where all the town planning is based on the conception that it will never rain at Karachi.

Natural disasters are hard to overcome. They need lot of cooperation among those who live. Genuine concerns expressed.
