Our Twilight Years-Sonnet Poem by Joseph Anderson

Our Twilight Years-Sonnet

Rating: 5.0

For decades past our land was glory bound,
We strode into our future, free of fears;
But pride and hope and joy have run aground
And fear strides through our dreams for future years.

Illegals cross our shores, on our fruits feed,
As drugs spread rampant through our streets of vice;
We've closed the path to jobs our workers need
And climate change brings storms and melting ice.

Our social, sexual mores have run astray;
We soiled the lands of nature and our Lord
And wars for peace abroad abound today.
We're governed by a team in full discord.

As we move onward through these twilight years,
O! Guards of fate, speak now, allay these fears.

Great poem Joseph. We too, here in England (& Europe in general) , are governed by teams in full discord.

This is a true eyeopener of the critical times in which we live. God help us to return to the beaten path. Thanks Joseph..

You are far from semi literate as your bio suggests. Your words are profound and beautiful. I just love Thomas A Robinson too: -)

This is an excellent poem that most of us can relate to. Thank you for expressing the truth of it all, and may God help us recover what once was so very beautiful. I think this is a look at how it has been wrecked by man, and probably will continue, until we reach final disaster Loved this poem.
