Our Poet Poem by Francis Duggan

Our Poet

At every poetry reading our poet he is there
His poems with the like minded quite willing to share
For each poem he reads there is a loud encore
And he bows and obliges when they ask him to read more.

Of his considerable talents our poet is aware
A natural with words and his type are so rare
And anyone who dares to criticize him gets on his wrong side
To find fault with his poems is a sting to his pride.

Our poet is a proud man none prouder than he
And he sees himself as a true prince of poetry
A modern poet in his writing prime
Though you will not like his poems if you do like rhyme.

Amongst the town poets our poet takes pride of place
And he accepts the applause with a smile on his face
His last book of poems has already sold out
Our poet he does know what he is on about.

Our very own poet is the best in the town
And many say he is heading for a greater renown
And very good poetry he is known to write
And his poems he feels happy for to recite.
