Our Love Is Like The Daffodils Poem by George Wootton

Our Love Is Like The Daffodils

For Judy, my wife, on our seventeenth Valenversary

Love is such a tender thing
Like the daffodils in early spring.
The blossom climbs through ice and snow
To let it’s awesome beauty show.

Ner’e giving thought to hardships near
It knows when it’s time to shine is here.
Spring rains fall to gently nourish,
The beautiful bloom begins to flourish.

Sweet nectar from the flower feeds
The busy, buzzing honey bees.
It’s goodness spread from place to place
So others enjoy it’s beauty and grace.

Beneath the soil the root grows strong
For the warm spring rains will soon be gone.
Summer’s heat and cloudless drought
Will wither the beauty of the flower without

But deep within the root is life
With strength and fierce will to survive.
On and on from year to year
In spring the beautiful bloom appears.

Through hardships, pain and times of trial
The strength of love defeats denial
Just as our love through time grows strong
We face each challenge, we sing our song.

Though sometimes summer’s heat and drought
Would quench the beautiful bloom without
Our roots are strong and long will live
If to each other our love we give.
