Our City Is Burning

  Our City is Burning
But who is yearning
for it to stop?

Because our streets are charred
And not sticky with burning blood
We aren't calling in the National guard
('This isn't a Red River flood! ')

It's a miracle!
The death toll of 1
- so obscenely low

Almost satirical
These comments on
Youtube videos

Of a dark orange glow
& then Ka-BOOM!
Another blow!
'What's next to go? '

A false sense of security
Among these unscathed spectators
Does nothing but infuriate me
Each one nothing less than traitors
To humanity & common decency

Amused & entertained
By the 'pretty pictures' of scorching flame

Those same explosions
Created a very real searing pain

For what will no doubt be
A hard hitting tragedy
To the lone slain firefighter's family

Maybe they'll publish his facebook picture.
