Open Your Eyes Poem by Genevieve Pilat

Open Your Eyes

I see you laying down so still
Barely breathing on your own free will
It brings such pain inside my heart
I fear that soon you will depart.

You were a man so strong and brave
Never hated were you with the love you gave
A strapping young man with a heart of gold
To you life was an adventure ready to unfold.

But here you are now in a hospital bed
Scarcely alive mostly brain dead
I pray to you now to give a surprise
All I want you to do is open your eyes.

Please open them up your loved ones are here
They never had left you, they were always near
They too want to see your smile again
We'll wait day and night it doesn't matter when.

You are a strong man so please prove it now
Please prove to the doubters that will not allow
The idea that a miracle could possibly spare
A dying life using love and a prayer.

Day by day you lie there motionlessly still
Your recovery progress sadly going downhill
Open your eyes let us know you're alive
Cause I don't know how we'll possibly survive.
