'Only We Know' Poem by NiQi Deveaux

'Only We Know'

How we met was soul to soul
The rest evolved with work and time
Rhythm was the catalyst
Heartbeats now in kind

Finding ruts and grooves so new
Like a painting still wet from
Artists brush that stroked the canvas
In meeting... you and I come

The world falls fast away just then
Discovering new found ground
And lands and skies, like birds we fly
Hither to, the lost and found

Oh what a dream so livening
The dreamer that lies in sleep
A waking giant, gargoyles will fear
And angels solemnly keep.....

A fantasy! They'll say in jest
Though they don't see, we know
Life is just that and so with haste
They too should let it go

And dream upon their wakening
To giants thundering hearts
And deepest breaths that shake the trees
And pull the skies apart

With one mighty swoop a land so rich
Is torn to bitty shreds
This lie that they keep repeating, resounds
And litters their dreaming heads

So let them go, and we will know
What others only dream
If they could even catch a whisper of
But now on posts they lean

And gossip til the sun goes down
While our own minds lift and fly
And dive and swoop but they can't see
Life passing them all by

Believing it's a snails pace, it flies
And now they're growing old
Never knowing the depths they've longingly sought
That you and I both hold....
