Only Place In Village
Schools were only place
Where we used to chase
With volley ball and kho kho*
We had no other place to go
Even though some of our mates were rich
The good dress was beyond our reach
We never used iron on dress
It was luxury if we used shoes
No one teased or commented
The village was really isolated
From real world
So many things we used to read in news papers or were told
It was daily routine
From home to school and back in the evening to dine
The lantern was available at home to study
Still we used to study in night with great difficulty
Each student dreamed about bright tomorrow
But found it difficult to move or go
The financial burden was too much for higher studies
I still get shiver when get little idea about past or glimpse
*Kho kho….. Popular game in village

Wonderful poem about a life in school, its general atmosphere, harsh realities of those days and also the simplicity of people and their limitations. It is but natural that a mere thought brings painful memories.
