Only One Poem by Kwadwo Botuo Gyimah

Only One

On my face you see a frown
My heart sinks from the pains of my lost crown
I was a man once
Born an adult by the power of His two hands
I had open eyes and an open door
But I knew not what I searched for
All the help I needed He brought forth from within me
And all the joy I desired was found in this perfect unit of a family

But the joy with Eve was brief
For I forgot my God, put my trust in her sword and danced to her chords
Off to the gallows I went
Ashamed and confused knowing not where I stand
But to this earth I was sent
A time and a time came and all the while she metamorphosed
Now she appeared to me in different colour, shape and size
And when I look into her eyes, I fail to realise that though she is many, I only need one

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting
But it was Delilah I loved, nothing could compare to her beauty and being
Once again I forgot my God, trusted her sword and danced to her chords
She cut me so deep,
I lost my sight and begun to weep

A stitch in time saves nine
I so wanted her to be mine
So I went to the corner where she stood,
This strange woman, unlike the virtuous once in my hood
I put on my lustful charm, stretched forth my arms
To embrace this waste so common so cheap
I would have stopped if I could but I couldn't so I didn't and we did it
Mamma mia! ! ! ! Here I go again! !
I forgot my God, trusted her sword and danced to her chords

In my quiet reflections, I say to myself not anymore
To be a man nah waah oh!
Though they are many, I only need one
The one who will not mislead me
But need me like I need her
Whisper not a lie into my ear
Proverbs 31 all that she is, found there

So until then, I've got to be the man
The man who is everything God desires
For to get my Esther
I will have to submit to the Father
I will find my Ruth in the field of truth
And Rebecca, my helper even to the last hour

My father is my best man
And when my angel walks down the aisle with Him on my side
She would be all that satisfies my soul and my Father's pride.
