Onishe Poem by Ndubisi Anslem Otolokpo

Onishe

ONISHE

In the mystic silence
Of the world, cleans
By sweet-scented
Folds of the night
Spreading it’s power over the sky

I watch your ripple smile
Smitten by your bare beauty
Which pants my heart.

Mother “Onishe”
I salute your immortal soul
In you all is in
And of divination stuff
At your sacred grove
Pleas for suckle of your sagging breast

Onishe
Here I am
At your majestic presence with joy,
Seeing the puff of your breath
Blooming across your heart.

I did not see but
Stench blood, kola nut native chalks,
At the fore-walls of your shrine
And the cold glitter of your
pure – hearted lover
Preening its beauty through you

Onishe!
Stretch out your balsam hands
And touch my heart, let me
Feel the pleasant sense of stars,
Of the dark autum night

Onishe!
Tell me the secret of
Your uneven head, the fetter of ogbono
Leaves clogging Round you, the gentle
Lyrical pulse which
Falls pleasantly upon your bosom.
