One Window Of Time Poem by Mal Sharp

One Window Of Time

Rating: 5.0

I wonder if you stop to think,
Of the people who came before.
The countless backs that have been broke,
So many lives ruined by war.

The slaves that built the pyramids,
Forced to work until they perished.
For the ego's of their masters,
Then for us to later relish.

The Greeks built their Colosseum,
To revel in their frightful game.
The people came in hoards to see,
Never leaving with any blame.

Then man came across the ocean,
To stake claim to lands that weren't theirs.
Bartering trinkets for riches,
They lost more than just their hairs.

People kept in captivity,
Because the colour of their skin.
Not able to do anything,
At the whim of their captor's sin.

When you look back, what do you see,
A legacy to be proud of?
What will the future see in us,
The same that is written above?

We live in one window of time,
And our actions far surpass them.
Choose who you want to be wisely,
Because the future will condemn.

Will we be known for our cruelty,
The pain we inflict on others?
Is there time to turn it around?
I really hope so, my brothers.
