One Sighs Fits All Poem by Robert Sheridan

One Sighs Fits All

To one thing constant - murmured
One foot in the sand - one in quicksand
Ups & downs in life - refractured
Expressionless - know how to cry
Have trouble - longing to confess
Traveled 1 mile - watch the minute hand
Old friends new friends - what's the diff?
Shortage of burial space - got stiffed
Breathe on the shattered mirror - barely alive
Where am I - others make the choice
Darkened shadows - had to steal the light
Memories of the past - stale aromatic mould
Whispered ancestral promises - enslave
Hopes of a better life - terminated in the usual way
Dismal thoughts - monotonous verse
Heart grows colder - made of cardboard
Withdrawn - to the trough, drink mead, get drunk
Motive arises - moral fiber becomes dust in the air
Read the human factor - unexacting
New road - dead end
Sessions now - unsweetened silent thoughts
Pass the cemetery - one sighs fits all.
