One Night Poem by D.W. Good

One Night

Rating: 5.0

The girl smiled a different smile yet still a novel sight
For me to look upon those lips and see a different side of me.
And she would not talk sometimes so that I was as good as blind
And she would stare and I would hear the difference of her voice now clear.

My guilt, latent and weak would prod me towards her I felt
And she would sense this I think and leave me alone at her side
Until I would say a thing she would take as honest
And she would then humor me again.

I would whisper, touch and wait, carefully
While she kept her tongue and suffered me
And her secret safe as to whether she did care for me.
So it went upon the moist midnight grass

While the stars watched above and three satellites passed
And I think now looking back she must have been
A different sort of lady who comes around only now and then.
