One Moment Poem by Abbie Jensen

One Moment

We all know the quotes ‘Life is precious’ and
‘Live every moment to the fullest’
But I think for most of us
It goes right over our heads.
But those sayings are as real
As you and me
When we take a step back from life to notice all the little things,
we start to realize that they make up our whole life.
Feeling that summer breeze
Blow softly against your face
Lying in the grass laughing uncontrollably with your friends
For the dumbest reasons
The sun warming your body
And turning your face pink
Standing on the top of a mountain
Feeling a sense of accomplishment even if for a little bit
Ripping the water back behind you while you swim
Like putting the past out of your sight
Turning on the dance floor so fast
That the world becomes a blur.

But you realize that one day
You stop turning, stop laughing, stop breathing.
And that is the most important moment of all
That is the moment when you look back on your life and think
Did I do any good in this life? Was I selfless? Kind? Forgiving?
Did I ever work hard? Did I ever try to turn other people’s lives around?
Did I spend all of my days creating drama? Fighting? Doing useless things?
Was I even here?
