On This Australia Day Poem by Francis Duggan

On This Australia Day

Rating: 0.5

Every serious offender deserve to serve out time
But to be born where human rights does not exist ought not to be a crime
They came here escaping harassment only to be locked away
And may you enjoy your freedom mate on this Australia Day.

A redneck Government voted in by rednecks want them to go back to from where they came
Yet at their hunger strike in Woomera I only can feel shame
That they are in confinement and I am living free
And all of these people are innocent far more innocent than me.

What we do unto others unto our own selves we do
Their loss of rights is a loss of rights for me as well as you
The road of life they've walked on than ours a far tougher road
And by tolerating their loss of rights our own rights we erode

This redneck Australian Government have got themselves in a mess
For these people are not criminals this point again I stress
So why lock them up in Woomera long miles from anywhere
If their plight we do not care about then about human rights
we do not care.

The band band is playing 'Advance Australia Fair' at the head of the parade
And so much out of Patriotism and Nationhood is made
And the flags and banners of the Country are proudly on display
And who wants to mention Woomera on this Australia Day? .
